Chapter 14, Page 1: Into the Dark Twilight
So a while back, when I was explaining the various magic used in chapter 13, I mentioned that there were ways to “cheat” the laws of physics that the comic uses for its basis of magic. I was talking about Akila. I feel around now is a good time to reiterate that nereids generally arent remotely human in everything but appearance, and even in that case their true form isnt what we see above. To explain Akila’s teleportation simply, she can take the group into her home… world (It’s not a dimension or universe, the closest equivalent is something akin to a “plane of existence”), and then spit them out at home. Think of it as akin to taking a flight that has a stopover on the way to your destination, rather than walking across the country. That way, all the heavy lifting that teleporting involves isn’t something she has to bother with, but she can acheve the same result. Yes , akila is still more or less a persona non grata in her homeworld, but nothing stops her from only being there for a few seconds. As for the clothes – she needs to be in her “true” form to be able to even travel home, and shapeshifting while wearing clothes is generally not a good idea. Akila’s non-humanity is going to play a role in the next few chapters, so I figured now was a good time to drop this bit of lore.
Anyway, see you next week.
