Not gonna lie this glow effect is a pain in the ass to make.

Ok, I admit I’m breaking a few laws of physics by having the time slowed like this while light is behaving normally. If I drew it completely realistically it would be so stretched it would be incomprehensible. Here’s what a physics accurate version would look like (theoretically):

oofSo yeah, not easy to understand. I finished some side art that I put in the contest I was talking about last week, and I’ll post it below.

On an unrelated note, I’m sorry if this week’s page looks a bit… off. I’m getting my first job tomorrow, and I’ve got my hands full with the college class I’m working on.

I’m working on a character height comparison, so you can tell… well, how tall characters are in comparison of each other. You can kinda see this in the second panel – Kat is noticeably taller than Theo, by about 4-5 inches. Theo’s a bit taller than average, but Kat’s family is just naturally tall.

I’ve decided to delay the publishing of the magic page, as magic will be explained in – depth at the start of chapter 8. And Yes, Theo – at least at time this page takes place in – has (weak) magical powers. I’m not saying how he got them; that’s going to be one of the big questions of the comic. (I will say eventually. It won’t be for a while though.  Feel free to theorize your own ideas.) Speaking of Fan Theories (if there are any), I intentionally don’t explain some things in the comic, and I never will. This isn’t to drive you crazy – it’s to let you come up with your own ideas for what happened.  So far the main thing like this is what exactly happened to Violet when she was kidnapped. I’m not going to create canon for it – she wasn’t conscious, so there’s no way she would know, and she was the only one there. However, Katrina’s backstory, including what happened to her before befriending Octavian and just exactly she’s so terrified of people finding out will be explained.

I’ve been doing a bit of thought on why Theo has fallen so hard for Kat: My best guess is that since he’s never dated (he’s never really even fallen for a girl before), he’s not used to the emotions of having a large crush on somebody, and the feeling is all that more intense because of it. I don’t know if this is actually happens, but since “love” and “attraction” emotions are just pleasure chemicals in your brain, and certain drugs operate in a similar way, it’s perhaps that Theo falling for his first girl is similar to somebody trying drugs for the first time – the first time is always the most intense, due to people building up tolerance through repeated use. Note: I am in no way encouraging drug use. Don’t do drugs, kids.

See you guys next week. Here’s that art – note it’s a bit gross. Not much, but a tiny bit. (It’s a blob monster made of SPAM.)
