Chapter 9, Page 10: A not-so-old friend
Hey guys! Hope you all had a good week. Sorry for not getting my comic 100% done in time – I just came back to college this week, and I’m still getting settled in. I know saturday is a bit late, but I’m considering moving the weekly date back to saturday (from wednesday) so I can fit it into my schedule easier. Not sure yet, though. Also, one reason the comic took a bit longer than normal is I have been working on the third (and final) creepy hidden video, which should be coming out later this chapter. Chapter 9 is going to be a shorter one, likely being around 14 – 20 pages. I need more practice drawing Chris, but after this short appearance he won’t be in comic until near the end, where pretty much all of the current named characters come back. Also, I finally got that new submarine game (the one I reviewed a long time ago) so here it is.
Overall, the gameplay of Barotrauma hasn’t changed much. It’s still hard as nails, but the polish of the game is vastly improved. Everything looks better – and there’s a campaign and people you can talk to now, along with weird random events – but the whole game, as I said before, is still about dying in a submarine. Mix up oxygen tanks and welding fuel tanks? You die. Swim too close to the submarine’s engine propeller? You die. Decide to overclock the reactor, causing the wiring to catch fire? You die. Think it’s a good idea to pick up that weird alien tech sitting on the seafloor, which suddenly catches fire when exposed to air? You die. Decide to transport some nitroglycerin for someone, and accidentally ram into a cliff? You die. Do absolutely everything correctly that you can? Well, you might make it then – but don’t expect the game to go easy on you. Your mission can be smooth sailing for 95% of the way there, and right as you’re approaching your destination, a giant monster attacks your sub, and you die. This isn’t to say the game isn’t fun – it’s great fun (especially if you can find some friends to do co-op with) – but you need to be ready to fail. If a mission is too hard, leave the game, and go play something else. You can always come back to it. It still needs a bit of bugfixing, but it’s still in production, so I guess that evens out. 30$ is still a bit much for it right now, but if you can see it on sale I thoroughly recommend getting it.
