Chapter 8, Page 20: Falling from heaven
Hey guys! Glad I was able to post again this week, and again I think this turned out rather well. I was experimenting with colored text again, and I apologize if it’s hard to read. I’ll try to use word bubbles where I can, it’s just that the amount of text in the panel with Kat would have obscured a fair bit of the picture.
An in – comic note: While Theo may not be exactly the most sensible person to exist, his experience with reading stories with magic and stuff in it have given him a decent amount of ideas of what to do and what not to do in this sort of situation. Even though the comic isn’t very traditional fantasy wise, he’s still smart enough to listen to Kat about magic and not go and screw around with his powers, like mind controlling people for kicks. Yes, he’s still somewhat naive, but he still has a lot more common sense than quite a few story protagonists his age.
Other note: Magic in this comic is very powerful – if you’re powerful enough. Theo’s just very inexperienced, and using his powers would likely do more harm than good in the long run. However, if somebody more powerful and skilled used their powers, it’s entirely possible a mage could probably fight off entire groups of men in a battle. Rule of thumb – if you have to kill somebody with magic, distance is your friend. Trying to stab or slice them with a sword, or do anything close range, is a bad idea, as they’ll easily be able to kill you before you land a hit on them. Trying to pick them off from a distance (optimally with them not knowing where you are), is your best bet. The reason for this is mainly due to the fact that someone who’s highly skilled with magic can easily kill anyone nearby in more or less the snap of a finger, so your best bet is… killing them before they kill you.
