She DID warn them, to be fair.

Hey guys! Sorry the comic was a bit late this week, I honestly completely forgot about it. I’ve often been asked if my characters are based on people I know, or characters from other media, nd the overall answer is more or less in appearance only. Theo’s blonde hair does resemble Neil from the Scott Pilgrim books, and Akila originally looked a lot like Naija from Aquaria, but when it comes to their character traits they’re more or less unique. That said, they do fall into character archetypes – Theo kinda falls under the generic ordinary fantasy protag umbrella – but I’ve worked hard on making them differ from those character tropes as well. For example, while having a fantasy protagonist gain magic powers is done to death in stories, Theo puts a spin on it by having him not be able to really use them. Violet’s could also fall under the role of being the edgy, brooding team member, but she also is in a committed, loving relationship, while most edgy characters are usually loner – types. Even the antagonist, The Lady in White, is rather atypical – while it’s not unusual to have a tall, dark haired lady as your evil magical antagonist, she tends to be a lot more honorable and respectful than most wicked witch type villainesses. Speaking of which – I’ve been asked why I use the term “The Lady in White” to describe her, as opposed to the more common “Woman in White”. The answer is that she’s not just a regular person – she has a sort of aristocratic politeness and poise to her, which shows itself even if she is quite literally about to murder two minors. In this case, the term “lady” is used as a sort of way to convey the type of antagonist she is – calm, collected, and cold. Whether or not she actually is nobility I’m not saying, but looking at her in her other appearance in the comic should give you a hint, if your memory for lore is good.

See you all next week.
