Chapter 8, page 26: Door Peeking
Hey guys! How are you doing this week? I know today’s page isn’t the most colorful one, but sadly I can’t make them all super bright and fun to look at. I know Theo looks a bit odd in that last panel, but it was a weird angle to draw him from, so he ended up looking kinda like Katrina. Theo’s hair doesn’t really change much, no matter what angle you look at it from, which is weird, but drawing it any other way looks wrong to me.
On last week’s comment on Nereids not attacking people: I know this is different than what I’ve said in the past, but since I’ve developed the Nereid’s lore some more since I said that, and they’ve become less openly hostile to humans. They still see humans as inferior, but they don’t kill them on sight. Basically, every human that comes into wherever the Nereids live has to be “approved”, so to speak, and if they are, they stay there for a while. (“A while” being an indeterminate amount of time.) Once the Nereids either get bored with them or need to bring in a new human, they are returned to wherever the Nereid grabbed them from as if nothing happened. So yes, Nereids do technically kidnap people, but they return them more or less instantly, if you can understand my meaning. Since the humans don’t remember anything, nobody really knows what goes on – but because there is no real evidence of them, they’re normally disregarded as a myth. if Akila did come out and say she was a Nereid, most people would kinda freak out as they’d think she was going to kidnap them, so normally she just is known as “That random girl with green skin.”
